Daily Vocabulary for Bank Exams: 11th February 2019

1. RAMPART: (noun) किले की दीवार
Meaning: a defensive wall of a castle or walled city, having a broad top with a walkway and typically a stone parapet.
Synonyms: barricade, bulwark, embankment, bastion.
Antonyms: peril, risk, jeopardy, hazard.
Usage: Soldiers formed a rampart around the city in order to protect Jericho from being overtaken.

2. INCONCEIVABLE: (adjective) अचिंतनीय
Meaning: not capable of being imagined or grasped mentally; unbelievable.
Synonyms: implausible, improbable, incredible, incogitable.
Antonyms: plausible, reasonable, tenable, conceivable.
Usage: When I looked at my outrageous hospital bill, I blinked at the inconceivable amount.

3. MINGLE: (verb) आपस में मिलना
Meaning: mix or cause to mix together.
Synonyms: blend, alloy, admix, coalesce.
Antonyms: divide, unmix, separate, disjoin.
Usage: The spies decided to mingle in with the crowd and see if they could find the killer.

4. THRONG: (verb)-भीड़
Meaning: (of a crowd) fill or be present in (a place or area).
Synonyms: flock, gathering, horde, assemblage.
Antonyms: few, trickle, scantling, bit.
Usage: When the game ended, a throng of fans carried some of the winning players off the field.

5. NOTION: (noun) धारणा
Meaning: a conception of or belief about something.
Synonyms: approach, perception, impression, conception.
Antonyms: concrete, reality, ignorance, misunderstanding.
Usage: When the girl saw how much her friends liked her sugar cookies, she had the notion to open an online bakery.

6. HEART-RENDING (adjective): शोकजनक
Meaning: causing great sadness or distress.
Synonyms: upsetting, traumatic, agonizing, desolate, excruciating.
Antonyms: cheering, delightful, pleasing, exhilarating, thrilling.
Usage: The heart-rending scenes that he witnessed turned him into a social worker and a spiritual thinker.

7. CORUSCATE (verb): उज्जवल होना
Meaning: (of light) flash or sparkle.
Synonyms: scintillate, shimmer, sparkle, twinkle.
Antonyms: converge, darkle, dull.
Usage: The flashlight was used to coruscate a message to the other campers across the lake.

8. SUPINE (adjective): लापरवाह
Meaning: failing to act or protest as a result of moral weakness or indolence.
Synonyms: spineless, pliant, submissive, inactive.
Antonyms: proactive, fecund, vivacious, tenacious.
Usage: My brother-in-law is a lazy fellow who will sleep with his head up in a supine position all day long.

9. PERAMBULATE (verb): इधर-उधर टहलना
Meaning: to travel by foot for exercise or pleasure
Synonyms: saunter, stroll, tramp, meander.
Antonyms: run, sprint, ride, dawdle.
Usage: They decided to take a short cut and perambulate over the large hill.

10. CONFABULATE (verb): बातचीत करना
Meaning: to talk informally
Synonyms: cackle, chat, patter, schmooze.
Antonyms: be silent, be quiet.
Usage: Guests gathered in the hallway to confabulate about the weather and make small talk.
