Example: Capital chokes for second day in a row.

1. Choke [chohk] =दम घोंटना
Verb: to stop the breath of by squeezing or obstructing the windpipe; strangle; stifle; to stop by or as if by strangling or stifling; to stop by filling; obstruct; clog; to suppress (a feeling, emotion, etc.) (often followed by back or down); to fill chock-full.
Synonyms: clog, congest, drown, fill, gag, gasp, kill, stifle, strangle, suffocate, asphyxiate, bar, check, close, constrict, dam, die, garrote, gibbet, noose, obstruct.
Antonyms: free, let go, loose, advance.

Example: The family of four was sighted spending some quality time together in the Nilgiris Biosphere Reserve by M. Santhanaraman, additional government pleader for Forest departm-ent at the Madras High Court and Dr. C.P. Rajkumar, a member of the Tamil Nadu State Wildlife Board.

2. Pleader [plee-der] =अभिवक्ता
Noun: a person who pleads, especially at law.
Synonyms: backer, campaigner, defender, lawyer, promoter, proponent, supporter, apostle, attorney, champion, counsel, exponent, expounder, proposer, speaker, spokesperson, upholder.
Antonyms: opponent, antagonist, assailant, enemy.

Example: “It may be due to genetic aberration,”said H. Basavaraju, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests and the head of the forest force in Tamil Nadu.

3. Aberration [ab-uh-rey-shuh n] =विपथन
Noun: the act of departing from the right, normal, or usual course; the act of deviating from the ordinary, usual, or normal type; deviation from truth or moral rectitude.
Synonyms: oddity, peculiarity, quirk, delusion, eccentricity, strangeness, weirdness.
Antonyms: normality, usualness, conformity, regularity.

Example: A student from the same school has been apprehended and he remains our prime suspect. The parents were kept in the loop and the weapon used in the crime has been seized.”

4. Apprehend [ap-ri-hend] =पकड़ना
Verb: to take into custody; arrest by legal warrant or authority; to grasp the meaning of; understand, especially intuitively; perceive; to expect with anxiety, suspicion, or fear; anticipate.
Synonyms: bust, capture, seize, bag, collar, cop, grab, nab, nail, place under arrest, run in, take in, take into custody, take prisoner.
Antonyms: free, let go, liberate, release.

5. Loop [loop] =लूप
Noun: a means of escape or evasion; a means or opportunity of evading a rule, law, etc.
Synonyms: coil, curve, bend, circuit, circumference, convolution, curl, eyelet, hoop, kink, knot, loophole, noose, ring, twirl, twist, whorl, wreath.
Antonym: line.

6. Seize [seez] =अभिग्रहण करना
Verb: to take hold of suddenly or forcibly; grasp; to grasp mentally; understand clearly and completely; to take possession of by force or at will; to take possession or control of as if by suddenly laying hold.
Synonyms: captured, annexed, clutched, snatched.

Example: Pradyuman’s parents and two staff members had claimed that Ashok was being made a scapegoat.

7. Scapegoat [skeyp-goht] =बलि का बकरा
Noun: a person or group made to bear the blame for others or to suffer in their place.
Verb: to make a scapegoat of.
Synonyms: fall guy, chump, doormat, dupe, fool, goat, gull, mark, patsy, pigeon, pushover, sacrifice, sap, schmuck, stooge, sucker, victim, weakling, another’s action boob, easy mark, sitting duck.

Example: Interlocutor meets Omar, others.

8. Interlocutor [in-ter-lok-yuh-ter] =वार्ताकार
Noun: a person who takes part in a conversation or dialogue; the man in the middle of the line of performers in a minstrel troupe, who acts as the announcer and banters with the end men; a person who questions; interrogator.
Synonyms: interrogator, interviewer, questioner, speaker, talker, dialogist.

Example: But the hostile political build-up turned the demonetisation debate into a street fight, with both the BJP and the Opposition appealing to the masses in the language they easily understood; the Opposition using hardship to incite people’s anger against demonetisation and the BJP appealing for their support terming it as a war on black money.

9. Incite [in-sahyt] =उत्तेजित करना
Verb: to stir, encourage, or urge on; stimulate or prompt to .
Synonyms: abet, agitate, arouse, encourage, exhort, foment, inflame, inspire, instigate, motivate, prompt, provoke, rouse, set off, spur, trigger, urge, whip up, activate, actuate, animate, coax, craze, drive, excite, force, forward, further, goad, impel, induce, influence, inspirit, persuade.
Antonyms: block, calm, dampen, depress.

Example: The reductionism diminished the debate to a sole test of the quantum of demonetised notes returned to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI).

10. Quantum [kwon-tuh m] =मात्रा
Noun: quantity or amount; a particular amount; a share or portion.
Synonyms: amount, measure, portion, sum, total, unit.
Antonyms: part, whole.
