1. Thwart [thwawrt] : विफल
Verb: to oppose successfully; prevent from accomplishing a purpose; to frustrate or baffle (a plan, purpose, etc.).
Noun: a seat across a boat, especially one used by a rower; a transverse member spreading the gunwales of a canoe or the like.
Adjective: passing or lying crosswise or across; cross; transverse.
Synonyms: circumvent, counter, curb, defeat, foil, frustrate, impede, obstruct, oppose, prevent, stymie, baffle, balk.
Antonyms: abet, aid, allow, assist, encourage.
Example: A Sub-Inspector-rank officer here has been suspended for dereliction of duty.
2. Dereliction [der-uh-lik-shuh n] : कर्तव्य का त्याग
Noun: deliberate or conscious neglect; negligence; delinquency; the act of abandoning something; the state of being abandoned.
Synonyms: desertion, desolation, forsaking, relinquishment.
Example: Respite from rain.
3. Respite [res-pit] : मोहलत
Noun: a delay or cessation for a time, especially of anything distressing or trying; an interval of relief; temporary suspension of the execution of a person condemned to death; reprieve.
Verb: to relieve temporarily, especially from anything distressing or trying; give an interval of relief from; to grant delay in the carrying out of (a punishment, obligation, etc.).
Synonyms: breather, breathing space, downtime, hiatus, interruption, layoff, letup, lull, recess, relaxation, relief, reprieve, truce, acquittal.
Antonyms: continuation, advance, beginning, blame.

4. Perish [per-ish] : नष्ट होना
Verb: to die or be destroyed through violence, privation, etc.; to pass away or disappear; to suffer destruction or ruin; to suffer spiritual death.
Synonyms: cease, crumble, disappear, disintegrate, pass away, rot, succumb, vanish, wither, collapse, corrupt, croak, decease, decompose, demise, depart.
Antonyms: appear, arrive, build, grow, be born, bear.
Example: Assam seeks help; plans to dredge Brahmaputra bed.
5. Dredge [drej] : किसी मशीन के द्वारा नदी से मिट्टी निकालना
Noun: Also called dredging machine. any of various powerful machines for dredging up or removing earth, as from the bottom of a river, by means of a scoop, a series of buckets, a suction pipe, or the like; a barge on which such a machine is mounted; a dragnet or other contrivance for gathering material or objects from the bottom of a river, bay, etc.
Verb: to clear out with a dredge; remove sand, silt, mud, etc., from the bottom of; to take, catch, or gather with a dredge; obtain or remove by a dredge.
Synonyms: clean, widen, raise, unearth, bring up, dig up.

6. Resumption [ri-zuhmp-shuh n] : पुनरारंभ, किसी कार्य को पुन: आरम्भ करना
Noun: the act of resuming; a reassumption, as of something previously granted; the act or fact of taking up or going on with again, as of something interrupted; the act of taking again or recovering something given up or lost.
Synonyms: continuation, reopening, restoration, resurgence, revitalization, revival, awakening, rebirth, recommencement, refilling, reformation, regeneration.
Example: The victim’s kin in their plea had sought resumption of trial before the CBI court, after the Army personnel were exonerated by the court of inquiry.
7. Exonerate [ig-zon-uh-reyt] : हक़ बहाल करना
Verb: to clear, as of an accusation; free from guilt or blame; exculpate; to relieve, as from an obligation, duty, or task.
Synonyms: absolve, acquit, discharge, dismiss, exempt, justify, pardon, vindicate, disburden, except, exculpate, free, liberate, release, relieve, sanitize.
Antonyms: blame, condemn, convict, damn, employ, engage, hire, hold.
Example: Mr. Dwivedi said a central mechanism would usurp the constitutional duty of the State High Courts under Article 233 of the Constitution.
8. Usurp [yoo-surp, -zurp] : हड़पना
Verb: to seize and hold (a position, office, power, etc.) by force or without legal right; to use without authority or right; employ wrongfully; to commit forcible or illegal seizure of an office, power, etc.; encroach.
Synonyms: annex, preempt, supplant, wrest, appropriate, arrogate, assume, commandeer, displace, grab, highjack, seize, swipe, take, accroach.
Antonyms: give, keep, leave, let go.
Example: Mr. Dwivedi said this constitutional duty was the cornerstone of independence of State judiciary.
9. Cornerstone [kawr-ner-stohn] : आधारशिला
Noun: a stone uniting two masonry walls at an intersection; a stone representing the nominal , ting place in the construction of a monumental building, usually carved with the date and laid with appropriate ceremonies; something that is essential, indispensable, or basic; government is a free press; the chief foundation on which something is constructed or developed.
Synonyms: essential, foundation, keystone, linchpin, mainstay, pillar, anchor, base, mainspring, key element.
Example: “There is federalism at work… Judiciary is not a monolith,” he submitted.
10. Monolith [mon-uh-lith] : केवल एक पत्थर की मूर्ति
Noun: an obelisk, column, large statue, etc., formed of a single block of stone; a single block or piece of stone of considerable size, especially when used in architecture or sculpture; something having a uniform, massive, redoubtable, or inflexible quality or character.
Synonyms: block, column, menhir, monument, pillar, statue, stone.
