Daily Vocabulary for Bank Exams: 2nd March 2019

Vocabulary is an important part of English that helps you deal with all kinds of questions in objective as well as descriptive papers of various exams. In the recently concluded Banking Exams, we witnessed that a major part of the exam was based on vocabulary. Many questions were vocab based and we can expect the same in the upcoming exams. It becomes very important to learn ample amount of words for the upcoming Government Job Exams. You can learn new words daily from our Daily Word List . Here is a list of words from daily Editorials. 1. Accolade (Noun) – सम्मान
Meaning: an award or privilege granted as a special honour or as an acknowledgment  of merit.
Synonym: honour, recognition, privilege, award, gift, title
Usage: Mrs. Smith is such a great teacher that she is always getting one accolade after another.

2. Vernacular (Noun) – जनभाषा
Meaning: the language or dialect spoken by the ordinary people of a country or region.
Synonym: everyday language, spoken language, colloquial speech, slang
Usage: To hold the interest of the community, the playwright penned his play using only the local vernacular.

3. Valedictory (Noun) – विदाई
Meaning: a farewell address.
Synonym: farewell, goodbye, leaving, parting, departing, going away, last, final
Usage: On the last day of school, seniors wrote a valedictory stating what they would miss about high school and read it in front of the class for their final grade.

4. Interdict (Noun) – पाबंदी
Meaning: an authoritative prohibition, in particular
Synonym: prohibition, ban, bar, veto, proscription,
Antonym: corroborate, support
Usage: Because I failed most of my classes last term, my parents will probably interdict me from working this semester.

5. Vitiate (Verb) – दूषित करना
Meaning: spoil or impair the quality or efficiency of.
Synonym: poison, spoil, stain, tarnish, touch, taint
Antonym: Clean, honor, purify
Usage: When peers and bullies apply pressure, it can vitiate the moral character of young people and lead them down the wrong path.

6. Perjury (Noun) – झूठा साक्ष्य
Meaning: the offence of wilfully telling an untruth or making a misrepresentation under oath.
Synonym: violation of an oath, giving false evidence/testimony, bearing false witness/testimony, forswearing oneself, making false statements, wilful falsehood
Usage: The mother who lied about her son’s whereabouts will soon face trial for perjury.

7. Plagiarize (Verb) – साहित्यिक चोरी करना
Meaning: take (the work or an idea of someone else) and pass it off as one’s own.
Synonym: infringe the copyright of, pirate, steal, poach, borrow,
Usage:  Professional writers who  plagiarize can be taken to court and ordered to pay damages.

8. Chronic (Adjective) – स्थायी
Meaning: continuing or occurring again and again for a long time,  happening or existing frequently or most of the time, always or often doing something specified
Synonym: natural; persistent, regular,
Antonym: unaccustomed, unused; intermittent, occasional
Usage: He suffers from chronic arthritis.

9. Adjudicate (Verb) – निर्णय करना
Meaning: to make an official decision about who is right in a dispute
Synonym: adjudge, judge, arbitrate, decide, determine
Usage: You should never adjudicate a major decision when you are under the influence of alcohol.

10. Punctilious (Adjective) – समयनिष्ठ (पाबंद)
Meaning: showing great attention to detail or correct behaviour.
Synonym: meticulous, conscientious, careful, diligent, attentive,
Antonym: careless, easy-going, slapdash

Usage: While I enjoy cleanliness, I am not so punctilious that I get upset about a little dust on my furniture.
