1. Ascertain [as-er-teyn] : सुनिश्चित करना
Verb: to find out definitely; learn with certainty or assurance; determine; Archaic. to make certain, clear, or definitely known.

Synonyms: confirm, determine, divine, double-check, find out, verify, check, dig, discover, establish, eye, eyeball, fix, identify.

Antonyms: disprove, invalidate, aid, assist, confuse, destroy, help, ignore, look away.
Example: A continuing paradox about India’s growth story in the last two decades, which have seen a substantial reduction in poverty, is the persistence of poor performance on the health count.
2. Paradox [ˈpær əˌdɒks] : विरोधाभास, विरुद्ध मत
Noun: a statement or proposition that seems self-contradictory or absurd but in reality expresses a possible truth; any person, thing, or situation exhibiting an apparently contradictory nature.
Synonyms: absurdity, ambiguity, anomaly, enigma, inconsistency, mystery, oddity, catch, error.
Antonyms for paradox: normality, regularity, standard, usualness, accuracy, certainty, correction, same, success.

3. Substantial [səbˈstæn ʃəl]: संतोषजनक मात्रा, आकार आदि
Adjective: of ample or considerable amount, quantity, size, etc.; of a corporeal or material nature; tangible; real; basic or essential; fundamental; wealthy or influential; of real worth, value, or effect.
Synonyms: big, consequential, considerable, extraordinary, generous, hefty, large, massive, meaningful, serious, significant, sizable.
Antonyms: broken, inconsiderable, insignificant, intermittent, little, meaningless, miniature, minor, selfish.

4. Persistence [pərˈsɪs təns, -ˈzɪs-] : दृढ़ता, धैर्य
Noun: the act or fact of persisting; the quality of being persistent; continued existence or occurrence; the continuance of an effect after its cause is removed.
Synonyms: endurance, grit, perseverance, stamina, tenacity, constancy, doggedness.
Antonyms: apathy, laziness, lethargy, weakness, idleness, indifference, indolence.

Example: He also underscored the need for greater accomodation in public discourse as democracy will be the “loser” if people refused to hear voices other than their own.
5. Underscore [verb ˈʌn dərˌskɔr, -ˌskoʊr, ˌʌn dərˈskɔr, -ˈskoʊr; noun ˈʌn dərˌskɔr, -ˌskoʊr]: किसी शब्द के नीचे एक लाइन खीचना
Verb (used with object): to mark with a line or lines underneath; underline, as for emphasis; to stress; emphasize.
Noun: a line drawn beneath something written or printed; music for a film soundtrack; background for a film or stage production.
Synonyms for underscore: accentuate, highlight, indicate, mark, stress, accent, caption, feature, italicize.

Example: A search operation was launched in Pathankot by the police and the Army after an abandoned bag containing Army fatigues was found.

6. Abandon [uh-ban-duh n]: छोड़ देना
Verb: to leave completely and finally; forsake utterly; desert; to give up; discontinue; withdraw from; to abandon hopes for a stage career; to give up the control of.
Synonyms: spontaneity, disregard, freedom, impulse, licentiousness, recklessness, thoughtlessness, unrestraint.
Antonyms: restraint, self-restraint.
7. Fatigue [fuh-teeg] : शारीरिक व दिमागी रूप से थकान
Noun: weariness from bodily or mental exertion; Military. labor of a generally nonmilitary kind done by soldiers, such as cleaning up an area, digging drainage ditches, or raking leaves; the state of being engaged in such labor.
Adjective: of or relating to fatigues or any clothing made to resemble them.
Verb: to weary with bodily or mental exertion; exhaust the strength of.
Synonyms: lethargy, weakness, weariness, debility, dullness, enervation, ennui, exhaustion, faintness, feebleness.
Antonyms: ability, energy, health, liveliness, strength, vigour.

Example: International relations thawed.

8. Thaw [thaw]: पिघलना
Verb (used without object): to pass or change from a frozen to a liquid or semiliquid state; melt; (of the weather) to become warm enough to melt ice and snow; to become less hostile or tense.
Verb (used with object): to cause to change from a frozen to a liquid or semiliquid state; melt.
Synonyms: defrost, dissolve, loosen, melt, relax, soften, warm up, deliquesce, flow, flux, fuse, liquefy.
Antonyms: coagulate, solidify, worry, freeze.

Example: The hope is that Washington would at some point tone down its rhetoric on the contentious questions.
9. Rhetoric [ret-er-ik]: वक्रपटुता
Noun: (in writing or speech) the undue use of exaggeration or display; bombast; the art or science of all specialized literary uses of language in prose or verse, including the figures of speech; the study of the effective use of language.
Synonyms: hyperbole, oratory, address, balderdash, bombast, composition, discourse, elocution, eloquence, fustian, grandiloquence.
Antonyms: quiet, conciseness.
10. Contentious [kuh n-ten-shuh s] : विवादास्पद
Adjective: tending to argument or strife; quarrelsome; causing, involving, or characterized by argument or controversy; Law. pertaining to causes between contending or opposing parties.
Synonyms: antagonistic, combative, testy, argumentative, belligerent, disagreeable, factious, perverse.
Antonym: agreeable.
