Daily Vocabulary for Bank Exams: 4th March 2019

Vocabulary is an important part of English that helps you deal with all kinds of questions in objective as well as descriptive papers of various exams. In the recently concluded Banking Exams, we witnessed that a major part of the exam was based on vocabulary. Many questions were vocab based and we can expect the same in the upcoming exams. 1. BADINAGE (noun) परिहास
Meaning: humorous or witty conversation.
Synonyms: banter, chaff, raillery, repartee.
Antonyms: bullying, criticism, argument, fight.
Usage: The president was in a good mood as he walked through the crowd and made several voters laugh with his witty badinage.

2. MELLOW (adjective) मधुर
Meaning: (especially of a sound, flavour, or color) pleasantly smooth or soft; free from harshness.
Synonyms: dulcet, euphonious, melodious, mellifluous.
Antonyms: gruff, abrasive, caustic, coarse.
Usage: His mellow voice and his qualitative speech made everyone applaud him.

3. EXCORIATE (verb) आलोचना करना
Meaning: to criticize harshly and usually publicly.
Synonyms: assail, castigate, vituperate, imprecate.
Antonyms: acclaim, compliment, laud, exalt.
Usage: The stern judge will excoriate the behavior of the repeat offender by sentencing him to thirty years in prison.

4. PROTRACTED (adjective) फैला हुआ
Meaning: lasting for a long time or longer than expected or usual.
Synonyms: expanded, lasting, prolonged, sustained.
Antonyms: abbreviated, abridged, curtailed, shortened.
Usage: Three years of long and protracted negotiations characterized the proposals for an indoor-events arena.

5. APOTHEOSIS (noun) उत्कृष्टता
Meaning: the highest point in the development of something; a culmination or climax.
Synonyms: peak, pinnacle, summit, zenith.
Antonyms: nadir, debasement, jab, imperfectness.
Usage: When my teacher said that my sculpture was the apotheosis of all the other pieces of art in the class, I was thrilled.

6. SPLURGE (verb)  कोलाहपूर्ण प्रदर्शन
Meaning: to spend extravagantly or ostentatiously.
Synonyms: waste, squander, dissipate, disburse.
Antonyms: economize, conserve, preserve, retain.
Usage: Should I splurge on the really nice camera or just buy one of the cheap models?

7. INCORRIGIBLE (adjective) असंशोधनीय
Meaning: not capable of being reformed.
Synonyms: inveterate, incurable, irredeemable, intractable.
Antonyms: rectifiable, reparable, reclaimable, recoverable.
Usage: Even after spending a year in jail, the young man remains incorrigible and unafraid of the law.

8. INCHOATE (adjective) प्रारंभिक
Meaning: just begun and so not fully formed or developed; rudimentary.
Synonyms: budding, inceptive, incipient, nascent.
Antonyms: developed, full-fledged, evolved, ripened.
Usage: Having just come into existence a few years ago, the new political party is considered inchoate by many historians.

9.  FRACTIOUS (adjective) झगड़ालू
Meaning: irritable and quarrelsome.
Synonyms: grumpy, cantankerous, peevish, irascible.
Antonyms: amicable, docile, affable, genial.
Usage: During the concert, police officers were on hand just in case the crowd became fractious.

10. WRANGLE (noun) तकरार
Meaning: a dispute or argument, typically one that is long and complicated.
Synonyms: quarrel, tussle, clash, brawl.
Antonyms: acquiesce, agreement, peace, harmony.
Usage: The two countries fell out in a bitter wrangle over imports.
