1. Quell [kwel]-वश में करना/शांत करना
Verb/क्रिया: to suppress; put an end to; extinguish; to vanquish; subdue; to quiet or allay (emotions, anxieties, etc.).
Synonyms/पर्यायवाची: annihilate, conquer, crush, extinguish, overcome, put down, quench, silence, stamp out, stifle, subdue, kill, overpower, queer, stop, subjugate, vanquish, hush up.
Antonyms/विलोमार्थी: build up, compliment, encourage, help.

Example/उदाहरण: Over 30 people were killed and more than 250 injured in Panchkula and other parts of Haryana on Friday when supporters of the Dera Sacha Sauda sect went on the rampage after their chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh was convicted of rape by a CBI special court.

2. Rampage [noun ram-peyj; verb ram-peyj, ram-peyj]-हिसात्मक आचरण
Noun/संज्ञा: violent or excited behavior that is reckless, uncontrolled, or destructive; a state of violent anger or agitation.
Verb/क्रिया: to rush, move, or act furiously or violently.
Synonyms/पर्यायवाची: binge, destruction, disturbance, frenzy, orgy, spree, turmoil, blowup, ferment, fling, fury, rage, ruckus, splurge, tear, tempest, tumult, uproar, boiling point.
Antonyms/विलोमार्थी: calm, order, peace, happiness.

Example/उदाहरण: As death and destruction engulfed Panchkula, the district administration imposed curfew.

3. Engulf [en-guhlf]-निगल जाना/समा जाना
Verb/क्रिया: to swallow up in or as in a gulf; submerge; to plunge or immerse, as into a gulf.
Synonyms/पर्यायवाची: bury, consume, encompass, envelop, flood, immerse, inundate, overrun, overwhelm, plunge, submerge, swamp, deluge.
Antonyms/विलोमार्थी: dry, neglect, uncover, underwhelm.

Example/उदाहरण: The violent events in Panchkula had their repercussions in the national Capital with over a dozen incidents of arson being reported from different parts of the city on Friday.

4. Repercussion [ree-per-kuhsh-uh n, rep-er-]-प्रतिक्रिया/प्रतिघात
Noun/संज्ञा: an effect or result, often indirect or remote, of some event or action; the state of being driven back by a resisting body; a rebounding or recoil of something after impact; reverberation; echo.
Synonyms/पर्यायवाची: backlash, chain reaction, effect, fallout, impact, influence, reaction, reverberation, side effect, echo, feedback, flak, follow-through, follow-up, imprint, kickback.
Antonym/विलोमार्थी: cause.

5. Arson [ahr-suh n]-आगजनी/आग लगाना
Noun/संज्ञा: Law. the malicious burning of another's house or property, or in some statutes, the burning of one's own house or property, as to collect insurance.
Synonyms/पर्यायवाची: torching, firing, incendiarism, pyromania, setting fire, touching off.

Example/उदाहरण: With the din refusing to die, the Speaker adjourned the House till noon.

6. Adjourn [uh-jurn]-स्थगित होना
Verb/क्रिया: to suspend the meeting of (a club, legislature, committee, etc.) to a future time, another place, or indefinitely; to defer or postpone to a later time; to defer or postpone (a matter) to a future meeting of the same body.
Synonyms/पर्यायवाची: defer, delay, discontinue, postpone, put off, recess, shelve, suspend, curb, prorogue, restrain, stay.
Antonyms/विलोमार्थी: advance, carry out, continue, do.

Example/उदाहरण: When delivering the 12th Justice K.T. Desai Memorial Lecture on dissenting judgments in Mumbai last year, Justice Rohinton F. Nariman described the great dissenters on the Supreme Court of the 1950s and 1960s as persons who had chiselled and added meaning to the Constitution’s fundamental rights.

7. Dissenter [dih-sen-ter]-संप्रदायवादी
Noun/संज्ञा: a person who dissents, as from an established church, political party, or majority opinion.
Synonyms/पर्यायवाची: protester, skeptic, heretic, nonconformist, objector, rebel, separatist.

8. Chisel [chiz-uh l]-छेनी/उत्कीर्ण करना
Noun/संज्ञा: a wedgelike tool with a cutting edge at the end of the blade, often made of steel, used for cutting or shaping wood, stone, etc.; chisel plow.
Synonyms/पर्यायवाची: blade, knife, adze, edge, gouge.

Example/उदाहरण: They did this, he said, by, more than anything else, appealing to what the former Chief Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court, Charles Evans Hughes, had called the “brooding spirit of the law and the intelligence of a future day.”

9. Brood [brood]-चिंतित हो कर सोचता रहना
Noun/संज्ञा: a number of young produced or hatched at one time; a family of offspring or young; a breed, species, group, or kind.
Verb/क्रिया: to sit upon (eggs) to hatch, as a bird; incubate; to warm, protect, or cover (young) with the wings or body; to think or worry persistently or moodily about; ponder.
Synonyms/पर्यायवाची: offspring, breed, chicks, clutch, descendants, family, flock, hatch, infants, issue, litter, posterity, progeny, scions, seed.
Antonyms/विलोमार्थी: parent, child.

Example/उदाहरण: In doing so, they have not only consigned some of the court’s most regressive judgments to the dust heap of history, but have also delivered a rousing affirmation of the critical place that the right to privacy enjoys in the penumbra of liberties that the Constitution guarantees.

10. Penumbra [pi-nuhm-bruh]-उपच्छाया
Noun/संज्ञा: a shadowy, indefinite, or marginal area.
Synonyms/पर्यायवाची: concealment, darkening, decline, diminution, dimming, extinction, obliteration, occultation, shading, shroud, veil, extinguishment, obscuration.
Antonym/विलोमार्थी: increase.
