The Hindu Newspaper Editorial Vocabulary For IBPS RRB 2017

Dear Readers,
Vocabulary is an important part of English that helps you deal with all kinds of questions in objective as well as descriptive papers of various exams. You can learn new words daily from our Daily Word List. Learn the words and make your own sentences on the basis of the given word list. Here are a few lines from The Hindu.

Example/उदाहरण: Mr. Singh’s statement drew a sharp rebuttal from National Human Rights Commission Chairperson H.L. Dattu.

1. Rebuttal [ri-buht-l]-खंडन/प्रत्याख्यान 
Noun/संज्ञा: an act of opposing, as in a debate.
Synonyms/पर्यायवाची: rejoinder, reply, answer, confutation, counterargument, countercharge, counterclaim, defense, counteraccusation.

Example/उदाहरण: ‘Khas Durbar’ is a symbolic rendition of the practices which were in vogue during the rule of the maharajas.

2. Rendition [ren-dish-uh n]-प्रतिपादन 
Noun/संज्ञा: the act of rendering; a translation; an interpretation, as of a role or a piece of music; the legal procedure or process of sending a suspected criminal to another country to be interrogated or detained, usually for law-enforcement purposes.
Synonyms/पर्यायवाची: depiction, interpretation, portrayal, presentation, rendering, transcription, translation, version, arrangement, construction, delivery, execution, performance, reading.
Antonyms/विलोमार्थी: failure, obscurity, vagueness.

3. Vogue [vohg]-प्रचलन 
Noun/संज्ञा: something in fashion, as at a particular time; popular currency, acceptance, or favor; popularity.
Synonyms/पर्यायवाची: in, latest, mod, now, rage, faddy, modish, popular, prevalent, state-of-the-art, trendy, up-to-the-minute, with it.
Antonyms/विलोमार्थी: out, unfashionable, unpopular, unstylish.

Example/उदाहरण: Frail and doddering, Ma Xunkai fights back tears on meeting Joe Thomas Karackattu, who is equally moved after tracing the descendant of a Malayali family that reportedly settled in South China some 700 years ago.

4. Frail [freyl]-अनैतिक 
Adjective/विशेषण: having delicate health; not robust; weak; easily broken or destroyed; fragile; morally weak; easily tempted.
Synonyms/पर्यायवाची: decrepit, feeble, fragile, infirm, sickly, slender, slim, thin, vulnerable, brittle, dainty, flimsy, slight, tender, delicate, fishy, fracturable, frangible, insubstantial, puny, sad, shatterable, shattery, tenuous, unsound, unsubstantial, wimpy, wishy-washy, wispy.
Antonyms/विलोमार्थी: fat, firm, healthy, hearty.

5. Doddering [dod-er-ing]-थरथरानेवाला 
Adjective/विशेषण: shaky or trembling, as from old age; tottering.
Synonyms/पर्यायवाची: faltering, floundering, tottering, trembling, anile, decrepit, dotard, infirm, senile, shaky, unsteady, weak.
Antonyms/विलोमार्थी: agile, young, youthful.

Example.उदाहरण: J&K Minister’s convoy targeted by militants.

6. Convoy [verb kon-voi, kuh n-voi; noun kon-voi]-काफिले/रक्षक दल 
Verb/क्रिया: to accompany or escort, usually for protection.
Noun/संज्ञा: the protection provided by an escort; a ship, fleet, group of vehicles, etc., accompanied by a protecting escort; an armed force, warship, etc., that escorts, especially for protection.
Synonyms/पर्यायवाची: attendance, attendant, companion, protection.

Example/उदाहरण: Mr. Trump’s policy envisages more pressure on Pakistan, no early U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan, robust military action on counterterrorism and a greater role for India.

7. Envisage [en-viz-ij]-परिकल्पना 
Verb/क्रिया: to contemplate; visualize; to look in the face of; face.
Synonyms/पर्यायवाची: anticipate, behold, conceive, conceptualize, contemplate, externalize, fancy, feature, foresee, form mental picture of, grasp, have a picture of, image, imagine, look upon, materialize, objectify, predict, realize, regard, see.

Example/उदाहरण: Is the Sardar Sarovar Dam boon or bane?

8. Boon [boon]-वरदान 
Noun/संज्ञा: something to be thankful for; blessing; benefit; something that is asked; a favor sought.
Synonyms/पर्यायवाची: blessing, godsend, windfall, benefaction, benefit, benevolence, break, compliment, donation, favor, gift, good, grant, gratuity, help, largess, present, good fortune.
Antonyms/विलोमार्थी: bad fortune, bad luck, disadvantage, forfeit.

9. Bane [beyn]-फटकार 
Noun/संज्ञा: a person or thing that ruins or spoils; a deadly poison (often used in combination, as in the names of poisonous plants); death; destruction; ruin.
Synonyms/पर्यायवाची: affliction, blight, burden, calamity, curse, despair, destruction, disaster, downfall, misery, nuisance, pest, plague, poison, ruin, ruination, scourge, torment, trial, trouble, undoing, venom, woe.
Antonyms/विलोमार्थी: advantage, aid, benefit, blessing.

Example/उदाहरण: Aquifers are omnipresent.

10. Aquifer [ak-wuh-fer]-एक्विफायर
Noun/संज्ञा: any geological formation containing or conducting ground water, especially one that supplies the water for wells, springs, etc.
Synonyms/पर्यायवाची: aquifer, water level, artesian basin, artesian spring, sinkhole.
